Wow, what a week this was! My blood pressure went up (way up!
I woke up early Friday morning with contractions and began to time them to see if we'd hafta head over to the hospital or not. With preterm labor if you have more than 4 contractions in an hour they at least want you to call and then determine the course of action. If I remember this right the contractions were between six and eight minutes (so they were not consistent) but definelty close enough together to make that trip to the hospital. As soon as I got off the phone with the hospital I called Nora so she could come over and sit with Zander (or sleep on our couch rather since it was before 5am!!). And we were off...
Josh and I arrived at the hospital at 5:40am and I was immediatly hooked up to monitors for fetal heart rate and contractions. The heart rate sounded good and the contractions were starting to get more consistent and I was 4cm dialated. At this point my OB wasn't at the hospital and we were dealing with the on call doctor who wanted to give me one of two different meds to try and stop the contractions (and labor). I was VERY reluctant to do anything without talking to my doctor first and even then I was reluctant to try any meds to stop labor. After talking to my doctor we decided that it would be best to take the meds and also take steroids for lung development (my due date wasn't for another 5 weeks, January 21st). After a little bit the contractions started to slow and eventually stopped...for about an hour!!
I think at this point it's something like 9am and my doctor comes to see me after monitoring what is going on. We talk about the "game plan" and decide that if the medication only stopped my contractions for an hour it was not worth taking it over and over and over just to put off the inevitable The risks outweighed the benifits for waiting to have the baby, stalling labor with the medication ment that there was a greater risk for infection. We mutually agreed that having a baby born early but healthy was better than being born closer to term but sick. We were going to have a baby!!
Around noon my contractions S T O P P E D!!
Crazy, huh? They stopped for something like an hour and a half. Funny thing is as soon as I told the nurses that they had stopped they started again (every six minutes or so, and stayed that way). My doctor came back to talk to us shortly after they started again and decided to give it some more time before deciding what to do (as far as sending me home or not). She checked me and I was still only dialated 4cm! She said that she'd give it a lil more time and then if things didn't get going she'd send us home (she said that if she thinks that it'll be at least 8 hours that the couple could be at home before NEEDING to be at the hospital in active labor then they should go home and be more comfortable). At about 4pm it was decided that we should go home (about a 40minute drive w/no traffic).
By the time we were released it was around 5 and the start of rush hour trafic...on a Friday. So, we did what any NORMAL human being would do in this position. We went to eat dinner at IHOP!! I thought it was a figment of my imagination but when we left the hospital the contractions started getting more frequent and more intense. Josh handed me his cell phone so I could time them (he's got a really cool stopwatch deal on his phone) and they were getting closer together. By the time we actually got home they were every 5-6 minutes and a few irregular ones that were only 3-4 minutes apart. Josh and I put a movie on to watch while I relaxed but soon I just got too uncomfortable and decided to go to bed. Josh finished watching the movie and did some other things around the house and came to bed sometime around midnight. Half an hour later I was up because I was so uncomfortable laying there w/contractions, I couldn't sleep anymore. I got up to go to the bathroom and suddenly realised that the contractions were REALLY close together! I think I timed 3 of them before making that ever popular call to the hospital. After I called the hospital I went in and woke Josh up (he had JUST dozed off) and we again got ready to drive to the hospital. Nora came back over to sleep on the couch (and watch Zander) and Josh and I made our way back to the hospital. It's the middle of the night and the highways are all clear...til we stumble upon an accident that has the whole thing shut down to one lane, luckily we were at the front of the line and it took just a few minutes to get through. But man, I had some interesting things flying around in my head...stuck on a highway and I'm in labor!!! Ack!!
Saturday, December 17 at 1:35am we are back at the hospital. I'll also take this opportunity to point out that we were away from the hospital for just a little bit over 8 hours!
This birth experience was so DIFFERENT from when we had Zander. We got everything we wanted...a private birth (the only people there were Josh, Susie (our doula), my doctor, my nurse and a NICU nurse for MiKael. when Zander was born it felt like the whole hospital and then some showed up!), no medication, I got to hold MiKael as soon as he was born, Josh cut the cord (he did with Z too), we were able to have some time as a family before they took MiKael away. Since MiKael was a premie he had to be taken to the NICU for a few hours of observation (which is routine for premies I guess). He was quickly moved over to the normal nursery when it was determined that his oxygen levels were stable and he didn't need any supplimenting (for those of you who don't know Zander was born at 32wks and was in the Special Care nursery for 3 weeks and on oxygen for 2 months). The best part? He got to go home with us like a normal little baby!
Ok, so now I feel as if I'm beginning to ramble just a tad bit too much! So, I'll stop for now. Hope you all are doing great!!

Zander and MiKael 9月13日 And now, the moment you've all been waiting for!Well, we had another OB appointment today with the "mega" ultrasound!
GB was playing hard to get and would NOT give us a good profile shot, so the u/s pics of his face are kinda garbled. I was really looking forward to getting a few 3D pics, but since he wasn't agreeing for a profile shot we didn't get any
Now for all the technical details...I gained again this month, but not a ton! I'm still down two pounds from my origional appointment, so not yet back up to my "pre-preggers" weight!
As of now that's all I can think of to say, if I remember anything else...I'll be back! This is the first time...that Zander has fallen asleep in his chair WHILE eating. The times he's fallen asleep in his chair before have been AFTER he was already done eating and waiting for us to finish up so he could get down! I guess he was particularly wiped out this day...if you look close in the pics you can see his nose squished against the side of his chair...and then he moved a second after I took that pic and his cheek is against the edge of his chair...oh my goodness, this was so funny! You mean I'm not supposta play in the toy bucket??One evening Josh and I had been playing on the floor with Zander, next thing we know he's running over to get more toys out of his bucket (or so we think!!) Josh and I started talking (mind you, the toy bucket is only FEET away from us) and a minute later we look over to see what is taking Zander so long and he's IN his toy bucket playing with the little things at the bottom! Random pics of us...I know, I know...it's been too long since we've updated our blog! But here I go on a posting spree so bear with me and enjoy!
These pics are just random ones that we got, with no "great" stories to tell about exactly. Zander being his cute self letting me snag some pics of him layin his head down on the couch...Me and Z playing with blocks (we should have gotten these sooner, he LOVES to play with them!) And yes, the picture where Josh is holding Zander...the lil man is asleep!
That's all for now on this album...more to come shortly! 8月5日 Summertime, sleeping and taco bell!Hi family and friends!
I've been trying for a while now to get on here and update this thing!
I know several of you have seen some of the updated pictures on here, but you don't know the stories yet! So, here we go talking about 4 different photo albums at once!
Now the next set of pictures with Zander in the sunglasses was just for fun!
Now the album with more sleeping pictures has a story, it's absolutely hilarious! This was naptime and Zander was being STUBBORN!
And finally we come to the pictures I just posted today! Zander and I had TacoBell for a very late lunch, it was his first time to have anything from there but he DEVOURED just about all of it! (minus the lettuce! haha) I could not resist taking these pictures!!! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the three that are more "close up"! I've looked at them I don't know how many times since I've taken them and those three pictures make me smile so big!
I hope you all have enjoyed the pictures and my big ramble! Hopefully it won't be so long next time before I'm able to write more on here!
Love ya!!!
Gail...Josh...Zander...........and GummyBear 7月15日 Hey everyone!Hi all!
Thanks for coming and checking out our family blog!
We are here to let everyone know that we are having an other baby in January!! (EDD is Jan 22nd). The first ultrasound that we had the doc referred to the baby as a gummybear (cuz at the time that's about the size and shape that it was!
Hope you are having an awesome day!
Josh, Gail, Zander and "GummyBear" 7月13日 Surprise!Hi Moms/Grandma's!
We gotta question for ya! Are ya ready for another wee one?!
My first OB appointment (5weeks ago) the doc told us that our estimated due date is January 22nd! This will be my forever due date, not ever changing. The only "change" that would be is what they'd put in my chart (if the baby is measuring big or small they'll note it....example, baby is at 20 weeks but measures 22 weeks...that sort of thing.) Be sure to check the Photo albums to see the first "picture" of our new gummy bear!
This morning I had my second appointment (by the way I'm at 12 weeks) and since my first visit (7 weeks ago, annual appointment) I've lost 5 pounds!
So, I think that's all the news for now. Sometime in the near future we'll be linking this to our website so everyone can check back here for frequent updates! So far you two are the first to know the news (I've not been ready to spill the beans before now, it's all my fault!!) When you guys see this and both know the news, if you could let us know...then we'll send out an email to everyone else to this page and let them know that way! So, now you can go encourage everyone to check their emails!! (I hope I have everyones address
Love you guys!!
